PARTICIPATION GRANTEES (2011)

The Hawaii Children’s Trust Fund (HCTF) awarded grants through the Hawaii Community Foundation (HCF) to seven agencies (one on each island), which provided input and actively participation in the development of campaign messaging. Grantees included:

  • Child & Family Service – Oahu
  • Child & Family Service – Kauai 

  • Maui Family Support Services – Lanai Unit 

  • Neighborhood Place of Puna (East Hawaii)

  • Hooikaika Partnership 

  • Molokai Community Health Center 

  • Neighborhood Place of Kona (West Hawaii)

Bennet Group worked with HCF and HCTF to organize, plan, and execute two gathering meetings for participation grantees to keep them involved in the process and collect feedback from them. There were two (2) required meetings: a four-hour in-person meeting on Oahu and a two-hour WebEx meeting. Additional feedback may be solicited but was not required.

IMPLEMENTATION GRANTEES (2011–2012) 

Summary
HCTF awarded two rounds of implementation grants in 2011 to support the dissemination of public awareness activities that will complement the HCTF campaign.

ROUND 1 (awarded 12/10)

1. Grantee Activities to Support HCTF Plan: Online Communications ($5,000)

Project: “Public Awareness Activity #1/Activity #2” 

Sex Abuse Treatment Center (SATC) updated its website to include its child sexual abuse Prevention Toolkit to make it more engaging and user- friendly, and to offer more information on preventing sexual abuse.

Protective Factors: Knowledge of parenting and child development.

2. Grantee Activities to Support HCTF Plan: Multimedia ($25,000)

Project: “A Media Project: Promoting Positive Attachment” 

Good Beginnings Alliance (GBA) created a video that promotes the benefits of positive attachment behavior as it relates to maternal depression and child development. The video will primarily target early childhood providers in Hawai‘i who interact with families with young children on a daily basis. GBA will include the HCTF logo and tagline in their materials.

Protective Factors: Nurturing and attachment.

3. Grantee Activities to Support HCTF Plan: Material Development ($20,000)

Project: “HCTF Plan – Material Development” 

Hooikaika created brochures targeting at adults and teens and incorporated the HCTF logo and tagline into its materials.

Protective Factors: All five protective factors.

4. Grantee Activities to Support HCTF Plan: Community Outreach ($5,000)

Project: “Communication Plan for Community Partners” 

East Hawaii Coalition to Prevent Child Abuse and Neglect partnered with various community organizations and businesses (e.g., Wal-Mart, KTA, and faith-based organizations) to encourage the prevention of child abuse and neglect and to promote community action against child abuse and neglect. Community partners received a list of tangible action steps they can take to help families.

ROUND 2 (awarded 12/11)
This round of funding supports community-based public awareness activities such as neighbor island radio PSAs, training, and grassroots community awareness activities. Grantees include (see below for project descriptions):

1. Media on Neighbor Islands

Four $1,5000 grants awarded to four (4) neighbor island organizations to work with the Bennet Group to make neighbor island media buys and review campaign materials:

  • Neighborhood Place of Puna (East Hawaii)

  • Child & Family Services-Kauai

  • Maui Family Support Services/Hooikaika

  • Neighborhood Place of Kona (West Hawaii)

2. Training for Business and Private Organizations

Project:
 Maui Family Support Services/Hooikaika Partnership develop and disseminate a toolkit to train businesses and private organizations in the Maui business community.

3. Training for Community

Project: 
Neighborhood Place of Puna (East Hawaii) will conduct “Front Porch” trainings for 30 community trainers and conduct 20 train-the-trainer sessions. Trained trainers are expected to each conduct three (3) additional trainings.

4. Community-Based Activities

Project:
 Neighborhood Place of Puna (East Hawaii) will create a three-part DVD presentation for us in educating community groups and businesses.
